The vibrant world of Jim Henson is based on that magical human creation known as the puppet: an object manipulated by a human in order to tell stories, represent life on earth, and, importantly, say things that humans often cannot or will not say.
Language uttered by puppets elapses in a bizarre and fascinating kind of linguistic third space. It is language that the human operator is saying but is also not saying. It is language from by an object that feels very much like a being. It is both real and irreal. It is often comedic or heartfelt but never mundane. Sometimes it aims to shock, but at other times it aims to heal and make whole.
